New Summer Geology Courses Available in Association with the Virginia Museum of Natural History
Want to dig for dinosaurs this summer? Two new summer field courses in the Department of Geology will allow interested students to do just that. In association with The Virginia Museum of Natural History, the department is offering Vertebrate Paleontology Field Techniques for undergraduate students (GEOL 498) and graduate students (GEOL 691). Students will travel to Wyoming to learn field techniques used by vertebrate paleontologists in documenting and excavating vertebrate fossils. The one-week (one credit hour) or two-week (two credit hours) course will include excavation techniques, making field jackets, field identification of specimens and documentation of collections, including field notes and mapping.
The two courses run concurrently from June 2 - 6 and June 9 - 13. Registration should be completed by Thursday, May 15, to participate in this experience. To learn more, contact Steve Lenhart at slenhart@radford.edu.

The Campus Activities Board is showing the movie "The Kite Runner" in the Bonnie Auditorium at 8 p.m. tonight.
Environmental Awareness Week at RU Dining Services
With Earth Day right around the corner, RU Dining Services is taking action to increase environmental awareness on campus. This week, Dalton Dining Hall and the Terrace Shops will be turning out the lights during lunch hours and removing the trays in an effort to conserve electricity, save water and reduce food waste. Instead of turning on more than 400 lights, dining services will be utilizing daylight from the various windows in Dalton Hall during the day. With more than 15,000 trays a week being washed and an estimated five tons of food waste sent to the landfills, going trayless will help reduce food waste and conserve water.
Students, faculty and staff can help conserve our natural resources by doing simple things at meal time, such as using only one paper napkin per meal or skipping the "to go" box and dining in. To learn more, contact RU Dining Services marketing director Kim Spivey at kspivey4@radford.edu or (540) 831-7156.
Men's Tennis Clinches
First Place in Big South The Radford men's tennis team clinched the Big South regular season crown and the top seed for the conference tournament with a win over Winthrop Saturday afternoon at the Dedmon Center Courts, then downed UNC Asheville Sunday to finish with a perfect 6-0 league record. The Big South men's and women's tennis tournaments will be held Thursday-Saturday in Rock Hill, S.C.
In other action this week, the women's golf team competes at the Big South Conference Tournament in Greenwood, S.C., today through Wednesday, while the Highlanders' track and field teams are in Rock Hill, S.C., Thursday-Saturday for their conference tournament. The women's softball team travels to Blacksburg Tuesday to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in a doubleheader that begins at 5 p.m., and the baseball team plays at North Carolina State University Wednesday night.
