Campus Invited to Attend Open Forums for College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences Dean Candidate
The campus community is invited to attend the open forums for Gary Johnson, candidate for dean of the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences. The faculty open forums are scheduled for Feb. 11, 3-4 p.m., and Feb. 12, 11 a.m.-noon. Dr. Johnson will meet with students on Feb. 11, 4-5 p.m. All forums will be held in Hurlburt Auditorium. Women's Tennis Team Plays Elon Tonight
The RU women's tennis team will be in action tonight with a dual meet against Elon University at 6 p.m. at Virginia Tech.

Men's Basketball Hosts Charleston Southern Saturday
Coach Brad Greenberg's Highlander men's basketball team hosts the Charleston Southern Buccaneers on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Dedmon Center. Gates open at 6 p.m., and tickets are on sale at the Riverside Entrance. RU students are admitted free with a valid RU ID. RU faculty and staff tickets are $5 for general admission and $7 for reserved seats. General admission tickets are $8.

Dread the Red Shuttle Schedule
The Dread the Red Shuttle service will run Saturday, Feb. 9, for the men's games versus Charleston Southern. The shuttle will run 45 minutes prior to game time and a half hour after the game ends.

Women's Basketball at Winthrop Saturday
Follow the RU women's basketball team as they travel Saturday to Winthrop for a Big South Conference match with the Eagles at 7 p.m. Ben Lueck will broadcast this important women's basketball showdown on 1460 AM at 6:45 p.m. For more information about the game and RU Highlanders news, visit RU Athletics' website.

Free Calligraphy Lessons Feb. 11-15
In conjunction with RU's celebration of Chinese New Year, the Club Programming Committee, RU Art Guild, the Chinese Club and the Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures are hosting free calligraphy lessons Feb. 11-15. Demonstrations will be held Monday, Feb. 11, and Wednesday, Feb 13, 12-1 p.m., 2-3 p.m. and 5-6:45 p.m. in 107 Cook Hall; Tuesday, Feb. 12, and Thursday, Feb. 14, 1-5 p.m. in the Bondurant Art Center located at 1129 East Main Street; and Friday, Feb. 15, 12-1 p.m. and 2-3 p.m. in 107 Cook Hall. Author to Detail His Neighborhood Exploration at RU Reading
Author John Lane will read from his latest book Circling Home at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 14, at McConnell Library. The book reading is free and open to the public. Circling Home recounts Lane's experiment of spreading out a topographical map of his South Carolina neighborhood, placing a chipped saucer over the map and tracing the saucer around the area where his home sits. From there, Lane set out to explore the circled one-mile radius around his home in an effort to learn more about the neighborhood. Circling Home, along with other books written by Lane, will be available for purchase and signing after the reading. RU Student Speaks at Ruritan National Convention
RU senior and economics major Amanda Newberry was recently the featured speaker at the Ruritan National Foundation banquet during the 2008 Ruritan National Convention held in Nashville, Tenn.
Newberry, a past Ruritan Foundation scholarship recipient, thanked the Foundation on behalf of all scholarship recipients and talked about her experiences as a student at RU, including her participation in the 2007-2008 Kirk Scholars program and their upcoming trip to China.

The purpose of the Ruritan National Foundation is to manage and maintain an endowment for the encouragement, promotion, and financing of the charitable, educational and benevolent activities of Ruritan Clubs and of Ruritan National.
