College of Science and Technology Receives $96,000
Grant from Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center
As a result of the ongoing relationship between the College of Science and Technology and the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, the center offered the college approximately $96,000 over two years to support an RU information technology program to be offered via distance education at the center.
The grant will be used to fund scholarships to support students entering the program and RU faculty travel expenses related to the commute from Radford to Abingdon.

African American History Bowl Tonight
Students show off their African American History trivia knowledge during the African American History Bowl at 7 p.m. tonight in the Bonnie Food Court. The competition, sponsored by CAB and BAP, is a part of Black History Month Celebration. The event is free and open to the public. The Office of Multicultural and International Student Affairs will sponsor a reception with refreshments at 6 p.m. in the Bonnie Auditorium.
RU Presents The Silver-Garburg Piano Duo Tonight
The Silver-Garburg Piano Duo will perform tonight at 8 p.m., in Bondurant Auditorium, Preston Hall. The concert is part of the University Performance Series.
Founded in 1997, the duo blends the artistry of Sivan Silver and Gil Garburg. The two have performed globally in venues that include Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Berlin Philharmonic, Finlandia Hall, Beijing National Radio, Rome's New Auditorium, Teatro Colón, Palacio Nacional de Bellas Artes and more.
Silver and Garburg are teachers in Germany. They have won numerous international competitions and released recordings which continue to receive worldwide acclaim. Admission is $5 general public, $2.50 children and free with RU I.D. Tickets are on sale at Hurlburt Hall and can be purchased by calling (540) 831-5420.

English Professor's Fiction Earns Best of the Net 2007 Honor English professor Tim Poland recently received a Best of the Net 2007 award for his short story, "League Night." The annual awards are presented by Sundress Publications in recognition of the best fiction and poetry published online. "League Night" was originally published in the Winter 2007 edition of "The Furnace Review." Poland is the author of Escapee, a collection of short fiction. His poetry, fiction and essays have appeared in numerous literary journals, including The North American Review, Beloit Fiction Journal, Literal Latte, Appalachian Heritage, Rattle, Main Street Rag and Sow's Ear Poetry Review. Poland's work also has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
