RU Hosts 31st Highland Summer Conference
Registration is open for the Highland Summer Conference at Radford University. Now in its 31st year, the creative writing class is June 2 - 13 and features Appalachian authors Darnell Arnoult and Frank X Walker. Joining Arnoult and Walker for evening readings will be RU professor Rick Van Noy and Georgia author Dana Wildsmith. Enrollment is limited to 20 and early registration is encouraged.

The longest-known credit-based creative writing workshop in the Southeast, the HSC celebrates and polishes the creative and expository writing skills of people of all ages and careers, focusing primarily on the culture of the Appalachian region. Registration is open to students and the general public. Students can earn three hours of graduate or undergraduate credit in English 490/590. Public readings by all the authors are held each Tuesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m. For more information, see the RU News Release.

Lecture Writing/Righting Women's Lives Today
Teresa Godwin Phelps, author of Shattered Voices: Language, Violence, and the Work of Truth Commissions, will offer the lecture Writing/Righting Women's Lives at 4 p.m. in Hurlburt Auditorium. She will speak about how women's narratives -- as survivors' testimony before truth commissions in places like South Africa, El Salvador, Guatemala, Chile and Argentina -- work toward justice and healing. The lecture is free and open to the public.

RU Students Are Stuff'n a Store with Art
Professor Charlie Brouwer's installation art class created temporary sculptures specifically designed for their location, an empty store at 1137 E. Main Street in Radford. The installation opens today from 4 - 7 p.m. It will also be open on Saturday, March 29 from 3 - 6 p.m. and Tuesday, April 2 - Sunday, April 6 from 3 - 6 p.m.

Fashion ShowFashion Design Students Show off
Original Work in Fashion Show

The 10th annual fashion show, presented by Radford University's department of interior design and fashion, is Saturday, March 29 at 7 p.m., in Muse Hall Banquet Room. Original designs by fashion majors and faculty are showcased in this much-anticipated event, which is produced by students. Merchandising students coordinate all aspects of the show.

Tickets can be purchased from the assistant in the department of interior design and fashion, 211 McGuffey Hall. Admission is $7 in advance and $10 at the door. To learn more, call (540) 831-5386.

Baseball Team Hosts Bucs in Big South Series
The RU baseball team takes on Charleston Southern University at Dedmon Center Park this weekend in their first Big South Conference series of the season. The Highlanders play the Buccaneers at 3 p.m. today, and at 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The Highlanders have won four in a row and five of their last six to up their season record to 13-9.

Wildflower Tour in Wildwood Park Saturday
Biology professor Gary Coté and David Darnell will offer a guided wildflower tour in Wildwood Park on Saturday, March 29, at 9:30 a.m. Wildwood Park is off of Main Street in Radford. The entrance to the park is next to the National Bank.

Joel Hagen Will Present at DNA Conference
Hosted By Yale University Medical School

In June, biology chair and faculty member Joel Hagen will be one of 12 presenters at the conference "Making Sequences Matter: Collecting, Comparing, Computing" at Yale University Medical School. Presenters will talk about the use of DNA sequences in biology and medicine. The conference is an interdisciplinary meeting that includes speakers from biology, computer science, anthropology, and history and philosophy of science.
