The $1,000 scholarship is given to one undergraduate student pursuing a career in a conservation related field. Sosnicki received the award based on her exemplary grades, an essay she wrote and a strong letter of recommendation written by RU biology professor Karen Francl. Softball Season Comes to an End at NCAA Regional
RU softball's storybook season came to an end last week with the Highlanders falling to No. 15 North Carolina 9-4 in the second elimination game of the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional. Just prior to their matchup with the Tar Heels, the Highlanders (41-15) won the school's first team NCAA tournament contest with a 9-5 victory over Campbell.
"I could not be more proud of our team this season," said Dean. "We had a tremendous year with a lot of firsts. Our first conference championship, first team NCAA victory for our athletic program and our first all-region first-team selections." To learn more, see the RU Athletics release.

Radford Athletics Update
The Radford baseball team opened play at the Big South Tournament in Asheville, N.C., last night. For game results and tournament updates, visit RU Athletics. The Highlanders entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed and were scheduled to face No. 3 Liberty in first-round action. This is RU's highest tournament seeding since 2004. Joe Raccuia's team posted the program's first winning season (25-23) since 2000 and the third best Big South record (16-9) in school history. See Radford Baseball Notebook for more tournament information.
RU's Martin Sayer and the team of Sayer and Zack Watson are competing in the NCAA men's tennis singles and doubles championships in College Station, Texas, this week. Play opened Wednesday and will run through Monday. This is the fourth straight year Sayer has qualified for the singles championship, while this marks the first time in school history an RU doubles team has advanced to the tournament. See Men's Tennis for more.
On the heels of making its first NCAA Tournament appearance, the Radford softball team had four of its members named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic Region first team. Earning Radford's first-ever recognition on the squad were Chelsea Kelley, Sarah Himan, Nichole Beall and Leigh Godfrey.
