Michelle Lineberry Mullins Symbolized Determination and Faith
Michelle "Petie" Lineberry Mullins '88 captured hearts on campus and around the world more than 24 years ago when she began an uphill battle with heart disease that ultimately resulted in her becoming one of the longest living heart transplant recipients. With a resilient spirit and a deep gratitude for the two lives she was given, Michelle enjoyed everyone and everything around her. Family was at the core of her very being.

Michelle passed away at the University of Virginia Medical Center on Saturday, Oct. 10, after a six-week battle with kidney and liver problems. Her husband Tim, a graphic designer in the Office of University Relations, was by her side. Miraculously, her heart had continued to beat strong during the recent health problems. Two years ago, Bonnie Erickson interviewed Michelle for a story in the RU Magazine. We invite you to renew your acquaintance with Michelle and hear her story.
