RU Today Frequently Asked Questions

What is RU Today?

RU Today is an electronic newsletter created by the Radford University Office of University Relations to keep the campus community informed of RU news and events. The newsletter is sent each Thursday during the school year to faculty, staff and current students, as well as to alumni and other interested readers who choose to subscribe. During the summer, RU Today is published on a bi-weekly schedule.

How often will I receive RU Today?

The Office of University Relations will e-mail RU Today each Thursday throughout the school year, except during university breaks, and every other Thursday during the summer months.

What if I don't want to receive RU Today?

It is important for members of the RU community to receive messages from the university. Valuable information -- facility closings and human resource notices, among others -- will be included in RU Today. However, if you wish to unsubscribe, there is an option to do so included at the bottom of each issue.

Why can't I read the text or see the design in RU Today and why don't the links in the menu work?

Individual e-mail clients interpret html-enhanced messages in different ways, so the design of RU Today will vary from person to person, computer to computer. If you have problems viewing the RU Today e-mail, go to rutoday.radford.edu

What information will be published in RU Today?

RU Today will include sections on general campus information, notices for students, faculty and staff, events listings, occasional profiles on university people and programs, alumni news, sports updates and more.

If I don't have time to read all of RU Today, how can I quickly find the most important information?

RU Today has a two-column format. Most of the important messages will appear in the general information section at the top of the newsletter for easy reference.

When are submissions for RU Today due?

All submissions for RU Today must be received at least ten business days prior to inclusion in the e-mail and will be reviewed for timeliness and relevance to a university-wide audience. Submissions for RU Today may be e-mailed to rutoday@radford.edu or select the option “submit an item to RU Today” in the right column of the electronic newsletter.

Why didn't my submission appear in RU Today?

All submissions must meet the e-newsletter's guidelines for publication as well as be timely and relevant for a university-wide audience. Send specific questions and submissions to rutoday@radford.edu

Why can't I choose which sections of RU Today I want to receive?

The information provided in RU Today offers something for all readers. The format allows readers to quickly find those sections they wish to read.

Why wasn't my submission selected as the top story?

Top stories are typically messages from the university administration, or events and programs that have a university-wide appeal such as commencement or convocation.

Why can't my submission appear in RU Today more than two times?

Our goal is to keep the content fresh and engaging. RU Today is designed to show the range of programs, events and services available to the campus community on any given day.

What criteria do you use to decide which submissions will appear in RU Today?

Items (e.g., news, events, programs) considered for publication in RU Today must be sanctioned by the university and have a university-wide appeal. News and events should be free, open to the public and important to the university administration and its goals. Should registration and/or a fee be involved, the event or news item will be considered if it is of general interest to a broad segment of the university community. Submissions should be sent to rutoday@radford.edu a minimum of 10 business days before it can be posted.

Generally, RU Today will be used to promote events in order that the university community will be aware of opportunities for participation. In rare instances, RU Today will provide after the fact reporting of an event. Generally, these events will be those of campus-wide interest and importance, such as commencement, homecoming and major presidential speeches.

RU Today will avoid repetition of stories. Stories will be promoted prior to the event and possibly the day of the event. Multiple postings will be avoided in order to keep RU Today current and useful to the campus community.

Items or events that involve a financial benefit to individuals or organizations other than the university will not be accepted.
