Senior Mandy McClenny Featured in this Month's RUfaces
This month, RUfaces features updated profiles of faculty, alumni and students, including senior education major Mandy McClenny.

When McClenny visited her sister on Radford University's campus several years ago, she discovered the perfect fit for her college aspirations. “I fell in love with the community,” says McClenny, now a senior studying early childhood development and special education. Like Travis Byrd (see Byrd's RU faces profile), McClenny is a member of the Telephone Outreach Program (TOP). Since the fall of 2006, she has raised more than $26,800 for the RU Annual Fund. “I thought working with TOP would be a good job opportunity because it involved reaching out to family and friends of RU,” she explains. “It provided me the chance to become more aware of the exciting initiatives taking place at RU and to share that information with others.”

Staff Works Behind The Scenes to Make First Week Special
The residential life and campus facilities staff members have worked tirelessly this summer in order to make the on-campus experience better than ever. During the summer, resident directors and resident assistants participated in intense training on all aspects of life at RU in order to help develop a new level of P.R.I.D.E. in residence halls. P.R.I.D.E., which stands for personal development, responsibility to self and others, integrity, dedication and enthusiasm, is the theme for this year's residential life programming.

Behind the scenes, the central residential life staff, along with a committed group of students and facilities staff, went above and beyond to make sure that residence halls were ready for move-in. Facilities maintenance staff members checked and made necessary repairs to residence facilities. Residential life labored to properly match students' room requests while being faced with the task of finding accommodations for an additional 180 residents beyond normal capacity. Some residence halls have new beds and mattresses, some have fresh paint and all have added security measures in place to aid in the safety of RU students.

RU's facilities maintenance crews have worked long hours on landscaping and campus improvements, such as the new brick entrance to Dalton, a new Nautilus fitness room on the first level of Muse and updates to RU's dining facilities. During move-in, a courtesy crew was available until 9 p.m. to address any last-minute needs or repairs.
